Introduction
“Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.”
--Andrew Marvell
Well. Make him run indeed.
I'm a musician (guitar, bassoon, voice, flute, piano) who accidentally turned writer and somehow ended up as a literature/writing/music professor. Life is strange. But cool.
I love the outdoors--hiking in the mountains, kayaking, cross-country skiing in particular. I live in the country on land I've turned into my own small forest (2,000 plus Norway spruce trees, along with various others), an orchard (apples, pears, peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, cherries, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and pecans), vineyard (red, green and purple grapes and kiwifruit) and vegetable gardens the past few years. I share my place with a dog and two cats. I keep pretty busy.
I'm playful and romantic. I like walks, movies, museums, concerts (classical, jazz, folk, rock, world music, bluegrass, etc., etc.), coffeehouses, discussions and quiet times.
So...anyway...
Over the years, I've met people from time to time, had some good times, from short flings to longer relationships. And for the right person, any of that would be fine again. If things build into more later, great. One step at a time. However, I'd prefer to build a long term relationship with a potential life partner.
But mostly, it comes down to chatting--a few emails, meeting publicly for coffee, or a few phone calls, a stroll through a park or wooded lane, see where things take us, and at least meet someone new on this journey of life.
“Say not, ‘I have found the path of the soul.’
Say rather, ‘I have found the soul walking upon my path.’
For the soul walks upon all paths...
And let there be no purpose in friendship
save the deepening of the spirit...
think not you can direct the course of love,
for love, if it finds you worthy,
directs your course.”
--from Kahlil Gibran
My Ideal Person: Someone easy-going, interesting, peaceful, down-to-earth, affectionate, passionate, sensual, who loves nature and the arts would be nice.
And someone who wants to be in a relationship, at least potentially.
